Infant car seats

When should I switch from an infant car seat to a group 1 child car seat?

Transport your child in the infant car seat for as long as possible. A switch to the group 1 child car seat is necessary as soon as the child's head protrudes over the edge of the infant car seat. However, it is a requirement that your child can already sit up unassisted and has reached a minimum weight of 9 kg.

1
Which infant car seat/child car seats by Kiddy have an aeroplane approval?

Which infant car seat/child car seats have an aeroplane approval can be found on the respective product page under "Downloads" or at https://www.tuv.com/de/germanyinfothek/infothek/kindersitze_flugzeug/hersteller_kindersitze/hersteller_kindersitze.html. Child car seats cannot be brought along without prior discussion with the airline. The respective airline should be contacted for further information.

1
The car seat belt is too short - is a belt extension possible?

You can create a workaround by adjusting the car seat, change the angle or move the belt height downwards. Fundamentally, no belt extensions are available, we therefore strictly advise against the use of these untested parts. In this case we recommend having a longer belt fitted by your car manufacturer. It is important that the changes be logged as part of the MOT test.

1
When I strap in my child, the vehicle seat belt can no longer automatically retract. What can I do?

Check the adjustment options of your vehicle belt as well as the vehicle car seat. Should the diagonal belt in the vehicle be adjustable, then try to set a direct belt movement in the direction of the belt guide of the child car seat. If your car seat is adjustable or movable, this can also help.

What is ECE-R129?

ECE-R129 is a Europe-wide approval standard for child car seats. The following has changed compared to the previous approval standard ECE-R44:

  • The new approval standard stipulates children be transported facing backwards up to an age of 15 months. An earlier switch to the next largest seat is to be prevented by this. - The seats are tested with the latest generation of dummies (Q series).
  • The lateral protection structure is being tested for the first time and is an important criterion for the approval of seats.
  • The size of the child is crucial, therefore there is no longer a classification by group and weight.
  • The inner dimensions of the infant car seat/child seat are measured in order to determine the maximum size of the child.
1
What does "i-Size" mean?

The basic idea behind i-Size is that every i-Size child car seat is compatible with every suitable car seat. Long type lists of countless tested cars are to be abolished in the long term. In the new ECE-R129 approval standard, i-Size in phase 1 is viewed as a universal Isofix. Accordingly, the attachment of child car seats with Isofix is stipulated. This is intended to reduce incorrect installations. Other than that, the criteria of the ECE-R129 standard apply here.

1
Are only i-Size seats available from 2018?

There is no usage ban for child car seats that are approved according to the valid ECE-R44/04 standard. Parents can therefore continue to use existing child car seats as before. If you would like to buy products that are approved according to the new ECE-R129 standard, an i-Size vehicle car seat ensures a 100% compatibility to the child car seat. Also child car seats approved to ECE-R44/04 are compatible on i-Size vehicle car seats.

The i-Size identification can be found on your vehicle car seat or in the vehicle type list included with the child car seat.

1
Are the Isofix funnels for installation of the infant car seats with the Isofix platform as well as the child car seats that are attached with Isofix absolutely necessary?

No, the Isofix funnels are an additional accessory, which are helpful with particularly deep Isofix. The Isofix funnels are available from specialist retailers, via service@kiddy.de or at www.amazon.de.

1
Can I transport my child in the infant car seats/child car seat even with an activated side airbag?

The side airbag does not have to be deactivated. Unlike the front airbag, this only inflates minimally and does not represent a safety risk to your child.

1
To which vehicle seats can I attach the Evoluna i-Size/Evoluna i-Size 2 infant car seat?

Read up all the necessary information about the use of child restraint systems in your vehicle owner’s manual. The Evoluna i-Size and Evoluna i-Size 2 infant car seats must never be strapped in with the vehicle's own belt. In conjunction with the Isofix Base 2, the infant car seat can be fitted to all i-Size seats in the vehicle. Fitting in Isofix seats listed in the Isofix type list is permitted. Care is required with child restraint systems pointing backwards; these must never be used in a seat with an active front airbag. Ensure that the lie-flat position cannot be used in your vehicle or can only be done so with difficulty, as there is very little space made available for child car seats depending on the car model. How much space is required for the respective infant car seat can be found under "Downloads" in the ""product data sheet"".
Here you can find the Isofix type list: - When buying an Evoluna i-Size/Evoluna i-Size 2.

- On the respective product page under "Downloads" as "Isofix vehicle type list"

1
Can my child also be transported facing forwards in the Evoluna i-Size / Evoluna i-Size 2?

No, according to approval standard ECE-R129 babies and small children up to a minimum age of 15 months must be transported facing backwards. In the event of a frontal crash, the head of the child can be propelled forwards. This large force cannot be compensated against and can lead to serious injuries. Transportation facing backwards has an effect like a protective shield on the still sensitive neck muscles and spine. The forces occurring in an accident can be better absorbed and distributed in this way.

1
To which car seats can I strap the Evolution Pro 2 infant car seat?

Read up all the necessary information about the use of child restraint systems in your vehicle owner’s manual. The Evolution Pro 2 can be fitted to every car seat that has a 3-point belt system. Please note: if the infant car seat is transported on the front passenger seat, the airbag must be switched off.

1
Can the Evolution Pro 2 (in conjunction with Isofix Base 2) be attached in the vehicle in the lie-flat position?

No, the Evolution Pro 2 can only be fitted in the sitting position, regardless of whether it has the associated Isofix platform. Outside of the car the infant car seat can be put in the lie-flat position without any problems and is a comfortable alternative to a carrycot.

1
When and for how long is the newborn inlay to be used?

Our premature inlay is suitable for premature babies and very small babies, which can be used from a body size of 45 cm. The newborn inlay is subsequently used. The inlays can be used until the head of the child protrudes over the supporting edge. The newborn inlay for the Evoluna i-Size 2 is equipped with removable flaps on the sides. Therefore, a further intermediate step is possible before the inlay is completely removed.

1
What differentiates the Evoluna i-Size 2 from the Evolution Pro 2?

The Evoluna i-Size 2 and Evolution Pro 2 predominantly differ in their attachment in the car. Due to the structure the lie-flat function in the vehicle is therefore only permitted with the Evoluna i-Size 2.

The differences at a glance:

Evoluna i-Size 2:

  • Tested & approved according to ECE-R129 - Ergonomically shaped handle
  • Additional lateral protection structure
  • Conforms with the body size (max. 83 cm) and not the maximum weight
  • The available space in the car (in a lie-flat function) is reduced to 76 cm
  • The protective components attachable to the side on the outer shell reduce the gap to the car door
  • Changed sun canopy attachment
  • Newborn inlay with flaps that can be removed from the side (as an intermediate step, before the inlay can be completely removed)
  • Approved with Isofix Base 2
  • Isofix Base 2 is included in the scope of delivery
  • Unique lie-flat position in the car
  • No aeroplane approval as the infant car seat is only approved with Isofix Base 2
  • Stickers and logo in a new look

Evolution Pro 2:

  • Tested & approved according to ECE-R44/04
  • Approved with Isofix Base 2 or belted
  • Isofix Base 2 is not included in the scope of delivery
  • A lie-flat position in the car is not possible
  • Aeroplane approval as the infant car seat is also approved when belted

For how long can my child be driven in a lie-flat position?

There are no fixed requirements for the maximum time of use of the lie-flat function when driving. If the child is fast asleep there is no problem with leaving it in this position for longer.
